4A - Repeat a melody

In this test, listen to the melody twice, then repeat it (you may play it if you are an instrumentalist, but most people find it easier to sing).

Listen to the key chord, starting note and count-in first, as these will help you to repeat the phrase with a sense of key and pulse.

Advice for singing:

  • Some people have a wider vocal range than others but if you can speak, you can sing!
  • To make it easier to pitch the notes, listen and compare the notes you sing with the notes you heard, adjusting the pitch if it does not sound quite right.
  • It is much easier to sing if you open your mouth quite wide and start with a sound like 'dah' or 'lah'.
