Hall - Tarantella
Final Performance
Pauline Hall - Tarantella is set for the ABRSM Grade 1 piano exam (2011-12).
Pauline Hall's tutor book Tunes for Ten Fingers (Oxford UP) must be one of the best loved choices for very young beginners. Tarantella comes from Hall's follow-up Piano Time series (by the same publisher).
The tarantella is a fast dance, sometimes said to be a kind of charm to cure the bite of a tarantula spider, but actually this is folk-lore and the name tarantella is more likely to have been derived from the town of Taranto in Italy!
An excellent performance of this piece will reflect the exciting pace and dance-like character of the music. The piece sounds impressive but is surprisingly easy to learn due to its repeated patterns and use of easy arpeggio and scale figures. It is also great fun to play!
